Advertising your wedding business | Wedding Industry Pros

You are here: Home / Business / Advertising your Wedding Business

In an era where Twitter, Facebook and?Blogs in general?are huge parts of both our business and personal lives I have recently been asked by many of our students about whether or not I would recommend advertising in a Wedding Magazine.

Hmm?this is not an easy one to answer as it really does depend on the magazine, who your prospective client is and what you are expecting to get out of it.

Advertising in a wedding magazine isn?t for the faint hearted. It is something that takes time to grow and you have to be willing to advertise for a minimum of 12 months to really see any results. I don?t know the current statistics but?a few months ago we wrote a?marketing article on the Death of the Bridal Magazine and whether or not this form of advertising will continue, so rather than talk about this again I thought it would be better to give you our top tips on what to do if you are going to advertise in a bridal magazine:

  1. Never accept the first price you are given. Magazines will always negotiate with you so don?t be frightened to ask for a better deal.

  2. Measure your response. Make sure you record how much response you have got from the advert so you can make an informed decision when deciding whether or not to renew the advert.

  3. Always ask about editorial. As an advertiser you want more from the magazine than?just regular advertising. Keep badgering them about editorial features and make sure?you know what features are planned for the next 6 months so you make sure you are relevant.

  4. Do your research. Buy the magazine and?have a look at who is advertising in there and give them a ring to see what their response has been like.?Try and make sure you?ring someone in a similar field to you otherwise that could be a waste of time. An entertainer might have a very different response to a wedding planner.

  5. Make it obvious. Nobody really cares what the name of your company is. Most?people need things to be?obvious and staring them in the face so make sure you tell people what it is that you do. If you specialise in budget weddings state that in big writing in the advert so it is obvious to the brides when they are flicking through.

I hope this helps in the decision making process on whether or not to advertise in a bridal magazine and remember to tell us about your experiences as it is by sharing information that we really help each other in the industry.

It is no FEAT to travel a smooth road ? Climb ZA :: Rock Climbing ...

?My mom is 59 and she hasn?t done any cardio sports for maybe 20 years, only Tai Chi. After watching the video of FEAT talks from the Cape Town event she says to me, ?I need an adventure?. In March she started walking training and, today,?she is in Spain having completed her 16th day of walking on the El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. She has done?over 300 kilometres and has just less than 500 kilometres to Santiago.?

Lisa de Speville, creator and organiser of the FEAT event, is immensely proud of her mom, Liz. ?She really has gone from zero to hero in six months,? she beams. ?Adventures are not just speed and distance feats, although these do captivate and make headlines. Whether an adventure is one day or four months there should be an element of travel ? local or abroad, a physical hardship component and experiences that take you where you?ve never been before ? and not geographically speaking.?

In an email received yesterday Liz says, ?One certainly learns about one?s limitations and I think I have discovered that my feet do 20 kilometres per day nicely ? they don?t like much more. The trail is tough going and the stones underfoot are terrible; I feel like the Princess and the Pea! Foraging for food and accommodation is sometimes quite stressful. Sharing a room with many complete strangers is still a bit odd and I even did my first communal shower the other day? all women, but a first for me.?

The speakers at this third edition of FEAT are cut from the same cloth. Andy de Klerk has opened countless climbing routes; he?s also a respected and accomplished alpinist, skydiver and BASE jumper. Marian Penso spent two years planning to ride the 4418-kilometre Continental Divide route in the US, which she did with partner, Luke Bush, in only 29-days. Grant ?Twig? Baker is a big-wave surfer. He tackles?monster waves with faces of up to 20 metres. The speed. The power. The weight of that water!

These three will share the stage with endurance horse rider Craig Egberink, psychologist Gerard Finnemore, adventurers Kim van Kets and Kobus Bresler, sports scientist Ross Tucker and meteorologist Simon Gear. Nine speakers in total with seven minutes each for their talks.

Getting a taste of her own medicine, De Speville is speaking at the new Alternative & Extreme Sports Expo (www.altxsports.co.za) on the weekend of 23-25 September 2011, at Riversands Farm in northern Jo?burg. Her talks, which will take place at various times throughout the Expo, are on the topics of microadventures and seeking sponsorships for adventures and expeditions.

FEAT takes place in Jo?burg, on Thursday, 6 October 2011 at 18h30, at The Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein. Tickets are available through Computicket. Tickets are R140.00 per person. R5 from each ticket is donated to the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

FEAT is made possible by its sponsors ? Black Diamond, CAPESTORM, Hi-Tec and 32Gi. These companies also support adventurers, making expeditions possible. Go Multi and Getaway magazines are supportive media partners. For more information, visit the FEAT website at www.featsa.co.za and FEAT page on Facebook. Photos and videos of talks from the two previous FEAT events, held in Jo?burg and Cape Town, can be viewed online.

What: An evening of seven-minute talks by nine speakers in the expedition and adventure sports genres. A list of speakers, their talk topics and bios is available on the FEAT website.

Date: Thursday, 6 October 2011

Venue: The Alexander Theatre, 36 Stiemens Str, Braamfontein, Jo?burg

Secure, undercover parking available in the Liberty Life building (corner Ameshof and Melle Streets). Entrance on Melle Str. R10.00 fee. Limited on-street parking is available outside the theatre. Security guards employed by FEAT will be on Stiemens and Melle streets, around the theatre, from 18h00 for peace of mind.

Time: Theatre doors open at 18h30. Start at 19h00

Tickets: R140.00. Available?through Computicket.

Speakers include: Andy de Klerk, Craig Egberink, Gerard Finnemore, Grant Baker, Kim van Kets, Kobus Bresler, Marian Penso, Ross Tucker and Simon Gear speaking on the topics of opening climbing routes, endurance horse racing, post-expedition psychology, big-wave surfing, multidiscipline circumnavigation, microadventures, mountain bike expedition, endurance sports science and adventure meteorology.

HP Pavilion p7-1030

The HP Pavilion p7-1030 ($580 street) is an entry-level/mid-range desktop PC, with the kind of parts and performance normally seen in higher-priced desktops. The p7-1030's Intel Core i3 processor and 8GB of RAM may not offer professional-grade multimedia or gaming muscle, but it's a great system for the household, especially if you're looking to replace a six- or seven-year-old system.

Design and Features
The p7-1030 is a mid-tower PC with a black aluminum chassis and a plastic front panel. The panel has the same glossy black finish we've seen on other entry-level desktops from HP, like the HP Pavilion p7-1047cb ($799 list, 4 stars). The front panel has a sliding cover that hides two USB 2.0 ports and headphone and microphone jacks. At the top of the panel, there's a multimedia card reader (SD, MMC, MS/Pro, xD, and Compact Flash), as well as the power button. Below the card reader is a DVD +/- RW drive. A second 5.25-inch drive bay sits just below it, empty, and ready for an upgrade. On the back of the tower there are four additional USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and three audio jacks: microphone in, audio-in, and audio-out.

The p7-1030 offers VGA and DVI video outputs, for hooking the desktop up to an external monitor or display?you could even utilize both outputs simultaneously for a dual-monitor setup. You won't be able to use your HDTV as a monitor, though, as there's no HDMI connection available. This exemption is usually the case when vendors want to keep the cost of a system low. Though it may not come with a monitor, the p7-1030 does include a wired USB keyboard and wired optical mouse. The keyboard is surprisingly comfortable, if perhaps on the mushy side, and its low-profile design is attractive. The mouse is also passable for a bundled device, but you'll want to pick up a new keyboard and mouse, if only to switch to something wireless that won't take up two of the six available USB ports.

Internally, the p7-1030 comes equipped with a spacious 1TB 7,200rpm hard drive, which is the same size and speed of the drive found in the Editors' Choice Lenovo IdeaCentre K330-11691AU ($599.99 list, 4 stars). A PCIe Mini card provides 802.11n Wi-Fi, which means you won't have to awkwardly find a place near your router or run long Ethernet cables to connect to the Web. There's a little room to grow in this mid-tower chassis. In addition to the aforementioned unoccupied 5.25-inch drive bay, you will also find one available PCI Express x16 slot and three open PCI Express x1 slots. A 250-watt power supply means you'll be limited to adding an entry-level graphics card, but even something as basic as the AMD Radeon HD 6450 would provide an improvement in terms of graphics and gaming capability. Because the system comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory, which occupies both DIMM slots, upgrading memory will mean removing at least one of the memory sticks. That said, it's hard to think of you needing more than 8GB at this point.

The p7-1030 comes with several programs pre-installed on the hard drive. Some of these are useful, like a starter version of Microsoft Office 2010, a 30-day trial for Norton Online Backup, and a 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security 2011, but we've seen longer trial periods on competing systems, like the 90-day trial on the Lenovo K330-11691AU. The p7-1030 also comes with HP LinkUp, a program that lets you access other Windows 7 computers on the same local network. Even computers from other manufacturers can download the LinkUp software to share files. It's like having your own local cloud. Desktop links to websites like Netflix and Hulu aren't a problem, but you may be irritated by the multiple screen reading programs from Blio, Kobo, PDF Complete, and Zinio. You'll definitely want to remove extras like toolbars from Bing and Google.

Performance
HP Pavilion p7-1030 The p7-1030 is outfitted with a 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i3-2100 processor, which behaves like a quad-core CPU thanks to Intel's Hyper-Threading technology. Paired with 8GB of memory, twice that of the Dell Inspiron i620-228NBK ($479.99 list, 4 stars), the p7-1030 scored 2,536 points in PCMark 7 performance tests, outpacing the Dell i620-228NBK by 241 points. . In Cinebench R11.5 tests, the p7-1030 matched the speeds produced by other systems with the same processor, like the Dell i620-228NBK (2.99) and Lenovo K330-11691AU (2.98). It was, however, left behind by the Core i5-equipped HP p7-1047cb (4.15) and Asus Essentio CM1730-05 ($569.99, 3 stars) (5.19) with its six-core AMD processor.

The p7-1030 is also a capable desktop when it comes to media creation. In our Handbrake test, it finished encoding our video file in 1 minute 40 seconds, whereas the AMD-equipped Asus CM1730-05 took over 2 minutes to complete the task (2:03). The Dell i620-228NBK, on the other hand, just missed the 1:40 mark by 2 seconds. The p7-1030 finished Photoshop CS5 in 3:46. The only comparative system to produce better scores was the Core i5-equipped HP p7-1047cb, which produced times of 1:29 in Handbrake and 3:31 in Photoshop.

The p7-1030's integrated Intel graphics won't let you get too far in terms of 3D gaming; for the heavy lifting, a dedicated graphics card is necessary. The desktop wouldn't even run our 3DMark 11 graphics benchmark test, and without support for DirectX 11, it wouldn't run our Lost Planet 2 test either. The only test we could run was Crysis (DirectX 10), which scored an unplayable 13 frames per second at medium resolution and detail settings. You'll have to upgrade to a discrete graphics card to play anything more demanding than World of Warcraft at low settings.

As entry-level systems go, the HP Pavilion p7-1030 offers a surprisingly potent collection of hardware, with processing power and storage space that should satisfy entry-level shoppers. Features like 1TB of storage space and a full-fledged Intel Core i3 processor make it a compelling choice for anyone on a budget. Shoppers can buy it with confidence, but bargain hunters will note that the HP Pavilion p7-1047cb includes a monitor, and the Editors' Choice Dell Inspiron i620-228NBK offers a similar package for about $100 less.

(AP) ? A defense lawyer told an Italian court Tuesday that Amanda Knox, the American student convicted of killing her roommate, isn't a manipulating, sex-obsessed "femme fatale" as her accusers charge, but is rather like Jessica Rabbit ? just drawn that way.

In closing arguments before an appeals court, lawyer Giulia Bongiorno compared Knox to the cartoon character, contending that Knox had been unfairly portrayed over the course of the media-hyped, four-year case. She said the 24-year-old American is instead a loving young woman who simply displayed immaturity and naivete at the time of the 2007 slaying.

Knox was convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering Meredith Kercher, a British student in Perugia, and sentenced to 26 years in prison. Co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito, an Italian who was Knox's boyfriend at the time of the crime, was convicted of the same charges and sentenced to 25 years.

They both deny wrongdoing and have appealed their 2009 convictions. A verdict in the appeals case is expected within a week ? possibly as early as Saturday.

On Tuesday, Bongiorno likened Knox to the voluptuous character in the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" film.

"Jessica Rabbit looks like a man-eater, but she is a faithful and loving woman," Bongiorno said. Paraphrasing a famous line from the movie, Bongiorno said Knox "is not bad, she's just drawn that way."

Bongiorno is Sollecito's lawyer, but, with the fates of the two defendants intertwined, she discussed Knox's role in the case at length.

By the media as well as in court, Knox has either been described either as a manipulative "she-devil" or as an innocent girl caught in a judicial inferno in a foreign land. Bongiorno said she was really an immature girl who had just started dating Sollecito.

"One should not mistake tenderness for sexual obsession," Bongiorno said, adding the two liked making faces at each other.

"How do you reconcile that with the 'Venus in Furs' image?" ? another reference Bongiorno threw in to a literary character who enslaved her lover. Bongiorno told reporters after the session that she had given a copy of the book ? a 19th-century Austrian novella ? to Knox, who reads avidly in prison, according to her family and supporters.

On Nov. 1, 2007, Kercher, 21, was stabbed to death in the apartment she shared with Knox, in what prosecutors say had begun like a sexual assault. Her body was found the following morning, and four days later Knox and Sollecito were arrested.

Bongiorno charged Tuesday that the investigators were impatient. "When you want to solve a crime in four days, it's haste," she said.

Knox and Sollecito insist they spent the night at his house the night of the murder, watching a movie, smoking pot and having sex. The movie they said they were watching, "Amelie," led Bongiorno in the original trial to compare Knox to the title character, an innocent girl intent on doing good.

"Last year it was Amelie, now it's Jessica Rabbit," Francesco Maresca, a lawyer representing the Kercher family, told reporters. "Let's move past these fictional characters, these are real people ? and unfortunately it's Meredith we always miss."

Bongiorno also looked at DNA evidence linking her client to the crime, most notably an alleged trace on the bra clasp of the victim.

Prosecutors maintain that Sollecito's DNA was on the clasp of Kercher's bra as part of a mix of evidence that also included the victim's genetic profile. They also say Knox's DNA was found on the handle of a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, and Kercher's DNA was found on the blade.

A court-ordered review of evidence, carried out by independent experts, said much of that evidence was unreliable. It highlighted the risk of contamination, especially on the clasp, which was collected from the crime scene 46 days after the murder.

The review significantly weakened the prosecution case, giving the defendants hope that they might be freed after four years behind bars.

Speaking of the clasp, Bongiorno said "that piece of evidence must be considered unusable."

Also convicted in separate proceedings was Rudy Hermann Guede from Ivory Coast. Italy's highest criminal court has upheld Guede's conviction and his 16-year prison sentence. Guede also denies wrongdoing.

    Faster-than-light neutrino claim bolstered

Representatives from the OPERA collaboration spoke in a seminar at CERN today, supporting their astonishing claim that neutrinos can travel faster than the speed of light.

The result is conceptually simple: neutrinos travelling from a particle accelerator at CERN in Switzerland arrived 60 nanoseconds too early at a detector in the Gran Sasso cavern in Italy. And it relies on three conceptually simple measurements, explained Dario Autiero of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Lyon: the distance between the labs, the time the neutrinos left Switzerland, and the time they arrived in Italy.

But actually measuring those times and distances to the accuracy needed to detect differences of billionths of a second (1 nanosecond = 1 billionth of a second) is no easy task.

    Details, details

"These are experiments where the devil is in the details ? the details of how each piece of equipment works, and how it all goes together," said Rob Plunkett of Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois.

The detector in the Gran Sasso cavern is located 1400 metres underground. At that depth Earth's crust shields OPERA (which stands for Oscillation Project with Emulsion-tRacking Apparatus) from noise-inducing cosmic rays, but also obscures its exact latitude and longitude. To pinpoint its position precisely, the researchers stopped traffic in one lane of a 10-kilometre long highway tunnel for a week to place GPS receivers on either side.

The GPS measurements, which were so accurate they could detect the crawling drift of the planet's tectonic plates, gave precise benchmarks for each side of the tunnel, allowing the researchers to triangulate the underground detector's position in the planet. Combining that with the known position of the neutrino source at CERN gave a distance of 730,534.61 metres, plus or minus 20 centimetres.

To determine exactly when the neutrinos left CERN and arrived at Gran Sasso, the team hooked both detectors to caesium clocks, which can measure time to an accuracy of one second in about 30 million years. That linked the labs' timekeepers to within one nanosecond.

"These kinds of techniques that we have been using are maybe unusual in high energy physics, but they are quite standard in metrology," Autiero said. Just to be sure, the collaboration had two independent metrology teams from Switzerland and Germany check their work. It all checked out.

The researchers also accounted for an odd feature of general relativity in which clocks at different heights keep different times.

    A ?beautiful experiment'

Other physicists are impressed."This is certainly very precise timing, more than you need to record for normal accelerator operations," Plunkett told New Scientist. His project, the MINOS experiment at Fermilab, has already requested an upgrade to their timing system so they can replicate the results, perhaps as soon as 2014.

"I want to congratulate you on this extremely beautiful experiment," said Nobel laureate Samuel Ting of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge during the question and answer session that followed Autiero's talk. "The experiment is very carefully done, and the systematic error carefully checked."

But only time will tell whether the result holds up to additional scrutiny, and whether it can be reproduced . There is still room for uncertainty in the neutrinos' departure time, Plunkett says, because there is no neutrino detector on CERN's end of the line. The only way to know when the neutrinos left is to extrapolate from data on the blob of protons used to produce them.

"Of course we need to approach it sceptically," he says. "I believe everyone will be pulling together to figure this out."

Wisconsin library loans iPads for at home e-reading

If you thought hitting up the local library was far too Web 1.0 for your avant-garde lifestyle, you may want to check out the Eau Claire public library in Wisconsin -- it's not only lending books, but also, iPads. Each one of the 44 available tablets will be stuffed to the digital gills with 1,000 books, ten audiobooks and various apps for your reading (or, not reading) pleasure. Although other houses of learning have launched similar programs, this is the first of note to go with Apple slates for its e-reading experiment. If you're the proud owner of a library card and have less than $10 in fines, you too can get in line for one of the loaners. We wonder, does the old saying "you break it, you buy it" apply here?

Plenty of diving sites are available in Indonesia where one can visit to fulfill his or her wish to witness the underwater paradise. Some of the diving sites that are needed to be considered include Bali, Komodo, Alor, Sumbawa etc.

Bali: Bali is a beautiful land which is popular for its cultural places as well as scenic beauty of nature. On the other hand, it is a most renowned destination for scuba diving activity. Divers from across the globe can be seen here. The colorful marine life inside the waters of Bali includes cockatoo leaf fishes, pygmy seahorses, reef sharks, bumhead parrotfishes, hairy frogfishes etc.

Greek government announces new austerity measures (AP)

ATHENS, Greece ? Greece will suspend more civil servants than originally planned and impose new pension cuts as part of more austerity measures, the government said Wednesday, as it tried to persuade international creditors to continue bailout payments needed to avoid a chaotic default.

Government spokesman Elias Mossialos outlined the new spending cuts after a 6 1/2 hour Cabinet meeting, the outcome of which was being watched closely by nervous global markets.

"This choice sends a message to our partners and the markets that Greece both wants and is able to fulfill its commitments and remain at the core of the eurozone and the EU," Mossialos said in a statement.

The new measures include increasing the number of civil servants to be suspended on partial pay to 30,000 by the end of this year from 20,000. Mossialos said this amounted to a total of about 3 percent of public sector staff.

Greece has been under pressure from its international lenders to meet fiscal targets and slash the size of its bloated public sector. The country has more than 750,000 staff in the country of 11 million people.

Under the new measures, monthly pensions above euro1,200 ($1,636) will be subject to a 20 percent cut of the amount above the euro1,200 threshold, while pensioners below the age of 55 will see a 40 percent cut in the amounts of their pensions above the euro1,000 limit.

The tax-free limit on annual income will drop to euro5,000 ($6,818) from euro8,000 ($10,908), and the cut will be applied to this year's income, Mossialos said.

"It is the fundamental and strategic choice of the country to return to fiscal independence as an equal member of the eurozone, achieving a primary surplus as soon as possible," he said.

The prospect of more tax increases and spending cuts are likely to be met with mounting concern in a country mired in a deep recession and with the number of unemployed rising to around one in seven. Greece's two largest labor unions already called earlier Wednesday for another general strike on Oct. 19. All public transport in the capital will halt on Thursday as transport workers hold a 24-hour strike.

Greece has been dependent since last year on rescue loans from a euro110 billion bailout extended by other eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund to prevent it from defaulting on its debts. The country undergoes a quarterly review by the IMF, European Central Bank and European Commission, known collectively as the troika, to ensure it meets its targets before each loan disbursement.

But the troika suspended its last review earlier this month amid talk of delays and missed targets. Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos held two nights of conference calls with the heads of the delegations Monday and Tuesday, and the troika is due back in Athens to complete its review next week.

Unless they sign off on the next euro8 billion batch of loans, Greece will default on its debts in mid-October.

The announcement of the new measures came after Venizelos briefed Parliament on the results of his conference calls with the troika.

The government will also speed up privatizations, and reforms opening up closely regulated professions to more competition ? both areas for which the country has come under criticism by its lenders for delays.

Earlier this month, the government had already announced a new property tax in a hurried attempt to plug a budget gap. The new tax will be paid through electricity bills to make it easier for the state to collect, but the plan could run into problems as the power company union has threatened to refuse to collect the money.

Network Marketing business Nurturing system ? MLM Internet ...

In my last post, we all (our commentors and I) discussed an mlm leads conversion system. There is one more system that John Assaraf (teacher in the movie ?The Secret?, bestselling author, lecturer, business growth expert and entrepreneur) says that all businesses require to be successful.
    Build relationships with people
And, this last system is a ?Nurturing System? (or follow up/relationship building system). A Network Marketing business is different from most traditional businesses because we need an additional nurturing system for our business partners. In fact, we could have a number of different follow up systems:

    1) Follow up with people who didn?t purchase our products the first time,
    2) Follow up with people who purchased our products and might want to purchase more.
    3) Follow up with prospects who haven?t joined our Team yet.
    4) Follow up with our business partners who HAVE joined our Team.

A lot of Network Marketing companies will already have a system in place to follow up with existing customers and business partners. However, it?s really important for you as a leader to also follow up with your team, so you can coach and mentor them toward success.

When you first get started, you will be able to follow up with your team either face to face, on the phone and by email. However, it won?t be long before some tools and other resources will be very helpful to you.

You will definitely want these tools to follow up with people who have NOT purchased products and/or have NOT joined your team. Here?s a list of some of the tools: ? ?

    1) Skype.com is a fantastic VOIP system where you can speak with anyone (who has an internet connection) for free. Or, you can call their landline for a small fee. You can share your screen with the other person who?s also on skype, which will make training much easier.

    2) An Autoresponder is really important for following up with people. I like Aweber the best.

Recently, my business partner has been purchasing local leads, and we couldn?t use Aweber to follow up with those people. So, we?ve purchased our own autoresponder for marketing to these local leads. This is working out really well. If you?d like to know where I bought the script, just ask me.

    3) Your own online webinar room. Having your own webinar room is necessary, so you can train your business partners, and market to those people on your list. This is a really useful tool. I?ve used many over the years and now using GVO Conferencing which is very INexpensive. However, it has all the features necessary to do training and collaboration with others.

    4) Video ? purchase a digital camera (with a good microphone) from which you can take some videos for following up with prospects and business partners.

    5) Online communication ? you might have a discussion forum or a facebook group or page used to follow up with people. This way, you can easily share questions and answers with the whole group. You could also use a Yahoo or Google Group, so you can communicate by email. Sometimes that?s much easier for people to communicate than an online forum.

If you know of some other tools that you use for following up with people, please let me know in the comments below. Would love to hear about them!

NFL looking into Dunta Robinson's hit

(AP) ? The NFL is looking into the hit by Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson on Philadelphia wide receiver Jeremy Maclin that drew a 15-yard penalty in Sunday night's game.

Robinson was fined $50,000 last year for a similar hit on the Eagles' DeSean Jackson that left both players with concussions. The fine later was reduced to $25,000, but Robinson falls into the category of repeat offender.

The league has said flagrant hits by such players could lead to a suspension. The NFL has not yet suspended anyone for such hits.

Normally, any league discipline is handed down in midweek. But the NFL could speed the process given the high profile of Robinson's hit ? during a prime-time national TV game ? and the cornerback's recent history.

Robinson drew a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter after leading with his helmet and crashing into Maclin. Maclin was slow to leave the field but returned to the game.

Replays clearly showed Robinson leading with his helmet, something the league has been adamant about eliminating. The NFL this year also banned launches into a defenseless opponent.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday he had not heard from the NFL about the hit. Smith said after the game he thought it was a legal hit and "that's the way we teach it."

"My opinion didn't change," he said.

Last October, the NFL sent head coaches memos listing those players on their teams who were called for two or more unnecessary roughness penalties since 2008. Ray Anderson, NFL executive vice president of football operations, told The Associated Press this summer the league uses the last two seasons as criteria to determine repeat offenders.

"Player safety is a priority and we will not relent on it," Anderson said in August. "Let me make it very clear, particularly in regard to repeat offenders, that egregious acts will be subject to suspension. We will not feel the need to hesitate in this regard."

Anderson, assistant Merton Hanks, the former 49ers safety, and their staff go over every play following each weekend. Director of officiating Carl Johnson and his staff also are consulted. When it's determined a fine or suspension is necessary, Anderson says the player and team are notified as quickly as possible.

The player can appeal to former NFL coaches Art Shell and Ted Cottrell, who are paid by the league and the NFL Players Association to handle those cases. Their appeal must be heard by the second Tuesday following notification of the discipline.

Commissioner Roger Goodell can become involved in the process at any time.

A Small Business Marketing Coach Will Help You Grow Your ...

A small business marketing coach can be an invaluable asset to any entrepreneur. Since most entrepreneurs start a small business based upon their specific area of expertise, they?re great at what they do, but they often don?t know how to market themselves. But smart business owners know their core competencies and the importance of delegating, so they hire a small business marketing coach to help launch their new enterprise.

Imagine that you?re an insurance agent and you?ve just opened your own agency. You?re experienced, have a small but loyal customer base, and your office is located in a high-traffic area. But business is slow. You need to create a buzz. You need a small business marketing coach to help you:

    • Understand your target audience: Knowing your target audience is critical to your marketing success. Who needs or wants what you?re selling? Why? A small business marketing coach will help you understand your target audience, their problems, concerns, and top priorities when it comes to the services you provide. In your case, for instance, your target market may be parents who need affordable auto insurance for their teen driver.

    • Define key differentiators: What separates you from your competition? Your small business marketing coach will help you get very specific in this area. It can be the difference between surviving and thriving. Discover why you?re different (and better) than other insurance agencies in the area, and then emphasize these differentiators in all your marketing activities.

    • Understand industry dynamics: A small business marketing coach will show you ways to examine your industry as a whole and how you fit into the marketplace. How are property and casualty insurance agencies attracting customers in your city? What are they doing and how are they doing it?

    • Develop benefits of the product/service: A small business marketing coach will help you identify and showcase the benefits of your products/services. Benefits address how your products/services will improve the customer?s life in some way. Benefits answer the question, ?What?s in it for me?? In your case, a benefit would be that customers can have comprehensive auto insurance at an affordable price.

    • Identity online and offline marketing opportunities: Your small business marketing coach is your best resource for helping you identify and implement both online and offline marketing strategies. Online, use your Web site, blog, email newsletter, and social networks to market your business. Your insurance agency would also want to use direct mail, client events, and networking to promote your business offline.

If you?re thinking of starting a business, if you?ve just started one, or if you?ve been operating for many years, you will benefit from the expertise of a small business marketing coach. Why? Because a small business marketing coach focuses on accelerating the growth of your business.
