Several female journalists have been targeted with bomb threats on Twitter, prompting a police investigation.
Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman, the Independent?s Grace Dent and Time magazine?s were all sent menacing tweets saying their homes would be bombed.
Anonymous account holders on the social networking site said they had placed bombs outside the reporters? homes, primed to explode at 22.47pm and claimed the bomb has ?trigger destroying everything?.
It comes during a week when rape threats were made on Twitter against MP Stella Creasy and feminist campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez.
A petition calling on Twitter to do more to prevent online abuse has now topped 100,000 signatures.
Ms Freeman, who had earlier published a column entitled, ?How to use the internet without being a total loser?, reported the threats to the Met police.
She wrote: ?I?m calling the police. If it?s illegal to threaten to bomb an airport, it?s illegal to threaten to bomb me.?
Ms Dent described the threat as a ?new low? for Twitter.
Ms Mayer described the threat as ?not very credible-sounding.?
But the police advised Ms Freeman not to stay at home overnight, the Guardian reported.
Twitter has announced plans to include a button for reporting abuse within every tweet ? something which is already available on its iPhone app.
But critics argue this does not go far enough and they want improvements.
Police investigating allegations of harassment against Ms Creasy and Ms Criado-Perez have made two arrests, a 25-year-old man in north-east England and a 21-year-old in the Manchester area.
