Stick to One Goal at a Time and Keep Your Motivation in Check [Motivation]

Stick to One Goal at a Time and Keep Your Motivation in CheckIf you're the type that likes to take on a lot of projects, then you know it's incredibly easy to get weighed down by multiple goals. Motivation is in itself, a great thing, but it's easy to let it get out of hand to the point you have too much going on. Writer Scott Young suggests you keep that motivation in check by only tackling one goal at a time.

Young's point isn't as much about multitasking, but more about trying to complete multiple objectives at once. Say, for instance, you're teaching yourself programming, but at the same time, you're also learning to play the guitar. The motivation to do both is great, but learning those skills at the same time might be too much. Young explains:

But less frequently to we recognize the opposite problem: too much motivation. Too much enthusiasm leads to starting many projects you'll never finish. It leads to splitting your focus in the misguided belief that such splits are sustainable.

His solution is to take on only one goal at a time. That doesn't mean you shouldn't continue to eat healthy or go to the gym while you're working on a big project, but it does mean you should focus your attention on a single goal at a time.
