by Ken Clarke

SURF CITY ? Play Ball! The Surf City Diamonds are starting to shine and we are hoping for a full house with online registration now underway for two adult programs at Surf City Parks & Recreation.

Kickball is already underway with Sunday fun sessions at 4 pm, continuing through the end of August. Official league play will begin in September with games on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. The cost is only $35 per player and includes a league tee-shirt.? Teams will be assigned by Labor Day weekend and a 12 game season is projected.

Softball is another new venture with an eight game September/October season scheduled.? Entire co-ed teams are welcome to play from local churches, businesses etc.? Softball will play on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6 pm. Up to six teams may register at $400 per team.? In addition, individuals may sign up for $40 and be assigned to teams.? Players should provide their own equipment and umpires will be provided by Parks & Recreation.

?I think it is fantastic that we will be utilizing our baseball and softball facilities for these two great sports,? said Parks & Recreation Director Kristie Grubb. ?You don?t have to be an expert to play. We just want everyone to come out and have fun!?

For both leagues the minimum age is 15.? Registration is available online through the town website www.townofsurfcity.com ? then click through to Parks & Recreation / Athletics.? Registrations can also be completed at the Surf City Community Center, 201 Community Center Drive, off JH Batts Road, during business hours. For more information call (910) 328-4887.
