JOHANNESBURG (AP) -The Confederation of African Football has suspended Tunisian referee Slim Jdidi for his below-par performance in the Burkina Faso-Ghana semifinal of the African Cup of Nations.

CAF also says it cannot rescind Jonathan Pitroipa's red card unless the official admits he made a mistake to send him off for diving.

CAF secretary general Hicham El Amrani says on Thursday it is "not happy about the level of refereeing in the second match yesterday ... We would have expected a much better level of refereeing."

El Amrani says CAF's executive committee will consider Pitroipa's suspension at a meeting of its executive committe on Friday after the Burkinabe was shown a second yellow and sent off in the victory over Ghana, ruling him out of Sunday's final against Nigeria.

Burkina Faso has also launched an appeal against the red card but El Amrani says referee Jdidi has to concede to a mistake before his "sovereign" decison can be overturned.
