like right now? The HR jobs market is looking positive right now. After a steady start to
the year, the number of vacancies available increased progressively throughout the quarter.
More HR professionals were also looking to move jobs after compensation and benefits
reviews were finalised. With more stability in the market, increased hiring among small
and medium firms within the financial services sector has been particularly noticeable. Is
your skill set in demand? Looking at this in more detail, most of the types of jobs
in demand we are seeing are the same as those we saw last year year. So generalists are
in demand as companies look for HR people capable of performing multiple duties. Compensation
and benefits specialists are were also sought-after as firms continue to explore better ways of
remunerating their staff. New FSA regulations in particular have made ensured that these
peopleHR professionals with these skills are in even more ingreater demand. With employee
retention remaining a key priority for many companies, talent management and learning
& development professionals are also being hired at the moment. One new area that businesses
are recruiting in is organisational development and change and we saw a number of these jobs
available. This development can primarily be put down to an increase in security confidence
in the market and firms feeling more confidentemployers were much more prepared to add to their workforces
than they were in 2010.
Interestingly, there has also been a large increase in demand for experienced graduate
recruitment specialists. This is evidence ofa good sign as organisations looking to
grow their workforces by investing in training staff at a junior level something that would
not have beenwas not a priority in the recession. Demand has been so high for these peoplefor
recruitment specialists that they have been in short supply. Because of this, salaries
for some graduate recruitment specialists moving from one role to another have increased
by up to 30 40%. What s competition for jobs like at the moment? While there are more jobs
out there, there are also more people looking to move. This is creating serious competition
for the best roles. To give yourself the best chance of success, you really need to sell
your achievements both on your CV and at interview concentrating the difference you have made
to businesses you have worked for in the past. Following an encouraging start to 2011, we
expect recruitment volumes to continue to increase in quarter twothe coming months.
We expect reward professionals and, particularly, graduate recruitment specialists to be especially
in demand. HR generalists with specific financial services experience (in, for example, a hedge
fund or investment bank) will also be highly sought-after. As in quarter one, speed and
ease of the recruitment process is likely to continue to prove decisive. What does the
future look like? The start to of 2011 has been encouraging and we expect this to continue
throughout the rest of they year. We expect particularly strong demand for reward professionals
and graduate recruitment specialists as businesses continue to invest in growth. HR generalists
