Martin's poem, 'A wet far northern arvo' beat out Jim Egan's 'Shadows through the trees' and Darryl Cooper's 'Mercy flight to Merungle'.
A second poem submitted by Darryl, 'The light blue ribbon' was voted the People's Choice best poem, receiving almost a third of all the votes tallied.
Judge, Kevin Shorey says Martin's poem was clever and humourous Australian bush story.
"It was tongue and cheek and the rhythm and meter was excellent except when Martin thought it shouldn't be for humourous reasons," he said.
