Picturing How Ryan Brothers Could Settle Family Business ...

Yes, the Jets are a long shot to qualify for the playoffs Sunday. They need to beat Miami and hope for other outcomes to occur. Since we have exhausted every possible playoff scenario this week, and with the drama still to be played, I thought it might be fun to explore ? Hollywood style ? what could happen AFTER all N.F.L. games are concluded. Here is one possibility, with apologies to Francis Ford Coppola, that borrows heavily from a scene in ?The Godfather,? when Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino, settled all family business.

Are you ready? Lights, camera, action.

WHERE MetLife Stadium
WHEN Late Sunday night, early Monday morning
WHO Rex Ryan and Giants running back Brandon Jacobs after a Dallas victory over the Giants.

Ryan, after returning from Miami following a Jets victory over the Dolphins, has already learned that the Jets are in the playoffs for a third consecutive season. Houston defeated Tennessee. Baltimore beat Cincinnati, and Kansas City defeated Denver. Ryan arrives at MetLife Stadium in time to see Dallas win the N.F.C. East title by defeating the Giants. The Dallas defense, with Rex?s brother Rob at the helm, was successful in containing Jacobs and the Giants offense. Jacobs, who unleashed an angry tirade at Rex after the Giants beat the Jets last weekend, once again crosses paths with Rex, who asks if he could meet with Jacobs privately. He obliges.

THE SCENE
(The Godfather theme music playing)
Ryan enters room. Jacobs is already sitting.

Ryan: You have to answer for your comments, Brandon.

Jacobs: Rex, you?ve got it all wrong.

Ryan: Ah, you think a stunt like that can fool a Ryan? You talked to the New England people about how to beat a Ryan defense.

Jacobs: Rex, I?m innocent. I swear on my P.S.L. Don?t do this.

Ryan pulls up a chair. Jacobs shifts nervously.

Ryan: ?.Tim Tebow is out of the playoffs. So is Andy Dalton. CJ2K. A.J. Smith. The Manning brothers. Today I settled all family business, so don?t tell me you?re innocent. Admit what you did.

Jacobs sighs.

Ryan: Don?t be afraid, Brandon. C?mon, do you think I want the Giants to lose their best running back? I?m friends with your coach, Brandon.

Ryan: No, Brandon, you?re out of the playoffs; that?s your punishment. You?re finished. I?m putting you on a plane to Honolulu for the Pro Bowl. I want you to stay there, understand, only don?t tell me you?re innocent. Because it insults my intelligence. It makes me very angry.

Ryan: Now who approached you, Brady or Belichick?

Jacobs: It was Brady.

Ryan (glaring): Good. There is a car waiting outside to take you to the airport. Get out of my sight.

Extra Point
The Ryan brothers get into the playoffs while the Giants are on the outside looking in? It?s the longest of? long shots, but it could happen.? How enjoyable would it be for Ryan and the Jets, after last week?s crushing defeat to the Giants, to get into the playoffs and watch the Giants be eliminated by Dallas?
